A string keeper holds the bowstring on the bow while the bow sits unstrung, so the string cannot slip off the tip, lose its twists or go missing in the bow bag. This one is made from tan Australian bovine leather, the fuller and firmer of our keeper leathers, with the grain side facing out and a suede lining facing in so the cap grips the limb tip rather than sliding around on it.
How it works
The leaf shaped cap goes over the top limb tip with the string loop still inside it. The black elastic cord runs down the belly of the limb, and further down the engraved leather arrow button pushes through the string loop and locks it. When you next string the bow, the twists are where you left them and so is your brace height.
| Leather | Tan bovine, Australian |
|---|---|
| Lining | Suede, grips the limb |
| Cord and button | Black elastic, engraved leather arrow button |
| Fit | One size for recurves, longbows and horse bows |
| Made | By hand in Western Australia, stitched by hand along the leaf |
Bovine leather takes on colour and character with use, and it is soft enough not to mark a finished limb. For a thinner leather that moulds closer to the bow, see the kangaroo leather string keeper. If your bow is a horse bow, string it the way the Asiatic Bows stringing guide shows.
